A Picture just arrived, from Lozelle, formerly Richard, Jennings, of Redimix apparently mixing it up in the Carmichael Hall. I do not remember the gig and I’m appalled by my posture and expression. I look like a recent immigrant from Fraggotoriodo. The shirt is the giveaway. I do remember that shirt and a gold-colored chain from a fake medallion I bought for Gonzalo in The Tempest at the end of my first with the Carmichael Repertory Company. The chain was very simple, a heavy ring link and looked just about right for mid to late 70’s mid-rockers. Oh, well. It disappeared at the time of the Les Paul walking away. Sad, sad day.
Richard, now Lozelle, is behind Goggin here, and only a corner of his shoulder is showing. Danny’s in a very characteristic Venus pose, and Randy, keeper of the congas, is on the far left. The drummer is a mystery. We had sad Gary for a while with Randy, but we also had Randy’s brother, older, condescending, somehow, to playing with us. He made it clear that he had made his living from drumming. We had not. Yet. Maybe.
UPDATE (2/6/08): Goggin reminded me (in comment) to mention Tracy “Big Horn” Warner, Kenneth Walker questions (in a letter) my dislike of my posture and expression, and Kathy read my description and told me that I shouldn’t dis myself in this pick. When I sang “If You Think I’m Sexy,” she said, I was. Ah, the good ol’ days.

Don’t forget Big Horn Warner there between us. I, too, have no memory of this gig, but somehow I feel that the guy behind the kit was named Les. Sad Gary came later. Push Times, Flash Floods, Big Horn, Johnnie Brillo, Metro Cardash…

Thanks for the addition. Les is a possibility for drummer here. The only gig where I possitively recall him, though, was the wedding reception in the basement of the Catholic student center where he had dropped acid, I believe it was revealed later, and, at least once, went off into a non-Ginger Baker-like drum solo that stopped all the dancing and gave the rest of the band time for a smoke break. Were he and Randy concurrent? My apologies for rushing through quickly enough that I didn’t mention Mr. Warner. Age has its problems as well as its advantages, you know.

No apologies needed.
I believe that Randy and Les were not only concurrent, but somewhat of a package deal. I believe it was Les’ kit that Randy, under the influence of a surfeit of soporifics, fell into with fearsome crashing and cursing. Randy was fond of doing downers, Les was always doing some form of upper, which made, as I recall, for a most interesting percussion session.
I hope this doesn’t constitute libel. Although, I’m pretty sure I can find corroborating testimony. Although the manager of the Dickie Mouse is probably no longer among us.
I’ll forward this site to Big Horn; we’re back in touch.

Hmm.. Perhaps Les lasted longer than I remember. You know what I can’t remember? Talking to him. Did he ever speak?
Ah. Do let Mr. Warner know about this. I’d be very please to hear from him as well.
