Word comes from Indiana that my father, who has been gravely ill for several years now, has gone to the hospital and that there is little hope that he will return home. He may land at a nursing home or hospice, but not home. I may be pulling up stakes for a while and heading up that way. As keeping myself writing is part of my personal salvation plan, I will try to keep up here, but the likelihood is that things will fall off for a while. It has turned out that I’ve kept the MySpace blog going, too, as a place for more personal kinds of meandering, so I may be posting more there than here for a bit. It’s a long drive and not all the Super Eights, which is where retired teachers can afford to stay, offer Internet service.
I’ll keep you posted as to how this works out.

Fred and John,
Thank you for your good thoughts, as Saint Andy Cipowitz would call them. I got myself out as far as Salado, which I remember as the town in which Kathy and I stopped to call you in Austin, John, on our first trip to Brownsville to let you know we were in the neighborhood. I seem to recall an excellent party to celebrate our arrival.
