Meetings, meetings, meetings

I suppose there is something magic about first and third Tuesdays as far as choices for meetings dates go. I remember several times with school organizations and then again with a dance club, the first suggestions for meeting dates was exactly that, first and third Tuesdays. Tuesday doesn’t conflict with the Wednesday-is-for-church rule (seriously, this was a consideration in setting public school agendas), Tuesday wasn’t weekend or near weekend (Monday and Friday or Thursday, all of which sometimes get counted into individual weekend plans) —these were the arguments.

I mention this because it ran through my mind again as I saw the meetings listed on page two of the Brownsville Herald. The Brownsville City Commission, Cameron County Commissioners Court, and the beloved Brownsville ISD Board of Trustees all meeting within a half of hour of each other. It nearly seems that those bodies want to limit their exposure to the citizenry it represents.

How about it, commissioners high and low? How about at least consider coordinating a little better. You can still use second and fourth Tuesdays and not violate the rules above. Or, if avoiding citizenry is the point, Wednesday’s always there, as the Brownsville Navigation District is aware. You know that every citizen and possible meeting attendee are in church every Wednesday, so you won’t have to retire to executive committee (or the Vermillion) for even the most nefarious schemes.
