Is that a bazooka in your pocket or are you just glad you’re in Congress?

April 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The Brownsville Herald ran an interesting three inches on a report by the Center for Responsive Politics on investments held by members of Congress in Department of Defense contract holders. It does make us wonder, among many other questions, why certain of these representatives and senators did not abstain from voting on war related matters. Conflict of interest, anyone?
Just thought you’d like to know.

Wow, that’s some serious money there; personal money, I mean. Nothing to match the 2 or 3 trivial billion we’re (by which I mean you and I) spending on the Iraqi ant hill, (and its little black hole cousin, Afghanistan). Who knew Kerry had so much money; I mean, is that just on paper, or did he finally come around last year and invest 20 mil in what looks like a coming investment. Or did he put $100 K into Halliburton back in the 70’s and has just been letting it ride. 7′bn come 11′bn baby; daddy needs a new pair of shoes.

Of course, you really can’t invest your money without investing in the wars (whichever ones we’re fighting this decade). That’s what diversification is all about. So Starbuck’s doesn’t send their coffee to troops; big deal. A…holes. Send ‘em coffee and spend your obscene profits on trying to end the war. Mmmm….. I think I should save this fight for another day. Still, we’ll just vote one set of crooks out, and bring in another one. Honest government is an oxymoron. Power corrupts. God save us all from it. :-)

You see, Kerry’s wife does sell ketchup to the armed forces. Rockefeller had to put all that money somewhere and we know darn good and well that oil’s not a good bet anymore.

Besides, war materials are the one set of products you can sell which surely must be replaced because the purchasers are planning to blow it all up. It’s a self-perpetuating market.

John, is that a smiley face or are you just glad to be here?
