An announcement

McAllen, TX, May 22, 2008 — The City of McAllen is proud to announce that Kate Horan, Branch Manager of Palm View Library, has been selected to attend the Tall Texans Leadership Development Institute on June 8-12, 2008. The Institute is sponsored by the Texas Library Association and is intended to foster and extend the leadership abilities and interpersonal skills of twenty-four selected librarians and library laypersons. These individuals are mid-career and are chosen for their leadership potential. The Institute will be held at Highland Lakes Camp near Spicewood, Texas. This marks the 15th year for the Institute.

Selection of the participants was highly competitive, drawing applicants from across the state. The participants are employed in school, public, academic, and special libraries.

Kate Horan, who holds a Masters in Library Science from St. John’s University, is currently co-chair of McAllen Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, an annual program that encourages children preschool through grade 12 to develop a lifelong habit of reading.
