Is photography your hobby or forte? Would you like to share your work with the rest of world?

If so, Hidalgo County invites you to participate in its first ever photography contest, celebrating the past, present and future of Hidalgo County.

The County of Hidalgo is looking for unique images showcasing the past, present and future of our cultures, wildlife/natural environments, people, attractions and businesses/industries for its new website, which is set to launch in Summer ‘08. Please read all contest rules below.

Winners (first through third place in each category and age division) will have their images used on the new website on a rotating basis and showcased at the new county administration building for up to one year.

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

ELIGIBILITY

1. No payment or purchase necessary to enter.

2. Contest open to all photographers of all ages, amateur or professional. Photographers under 17 must obtain parent or guardian signature to enter.

CATEGORIES and AGE DIVISIONS

1. The two age divisions are Youth and Adult. Youth photographers are defined as 17 and younger. Adult photographers are defined as 18 and above.

2. Categories:

a. Culture

b. Wildlife and Landscapes

c. People

d. Attractions

e. Business/Industry

3. First through third place winners will be selected for each age division in each category for a total of 30 winning images.

4. You may submit up to three photographs in each category.

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

1. Color or B&W digital photos will be accepted.

2. Images should be submitted in JPG format at high quality and file size should not exceed 5MB (5,000KB).

3. No borders or frames on images.

4. No watermarks, signatures or copyright notices on photos.

5. Entries must be submitted by original photographer.

6. Photos containing recognizable persons must be accompanied with a model release or statement with signature.

7. The photo must be suitable for government use. No obscene or graphic photos.

OWNERSHIP/PHOTO USE POLICY

1. Photographers retain the copyright to their photographs.

2. By entering the contest, photographers agree to have their submitted photograph used on the Hidalgo County website, www.co.hidalgo.tx.us, and displayed at the new Hidalgo County Administration Building without any fee or other form of compensation.

3. Photographers agree that winning photos may be used in an online gallery and that photos will be retained by the county for archival purposes without any fee or other form of compensation.

4. Entrants agree that Hidalgo County may contact them for permission to use their images for other projects. Hidalgo County will not use the images for any other purpose without express permission from the photographer. Images will never be used in a for-profit venture.

5. Photos will be credited to the photographer listed on the registration form.

6. If ownership of the photograph is contested in any manner, Hidalgo County may disqualify or discontinue use of the photograph.

JUDGING

1. A panel of judges will judge each photo based on quality, creativity and how the image captures either the past, present and future of Hidalgo County.

2. The panel will include those experienced in multimedia, photography, website design and public relations.

3. All decisions made by the panel are final.

4. Winners will be notified within two weeks after selections are made via the information provided on the contest entry form.
