Airport at dawn

From Gene’s Notebook

…and the cat made its way along a wall near the Gateway Bridge fence, white cat, going west …. And I made my way east in today’s pre-dawn, though even before 6 a.m., pink and blue played with the eastern clouds - true dawn ….

I was pedaling to the airport to bid two friends a safe trip, but after I leaned my bike on an outside potted tree and went inside the sterile interior , I was too late. The police, Border Patrol and baggage screeners were walking back to the lobby blue, green white uniforms …. And with guns and tasers and even more weapons, concealed and obvious, I was not about to vault some gates and rush up to the plane to utter my trip wish.

…so did it matter? Yes, but more no, the trip, the telling, the breaking dawn … all fine pieces of life, and there is something to all this - moments, not goals, goals mere excuses …and missed words, missed trains and buses and planes and people, like I said, just pieces ….

…the cat kept going, I turned back west - plenty of light in the sky by then - and about 20 years ago, she rushed onto a bus, gave me some cookies, a kiss and hug and I never saw her again …. Ah! Moments!
