One of McAllen’s newest art venues is an ice cream parlor. Fun loving Jim Kryzak notified me that he will be hosting live music from 7 – 9 pm on Tuesdays at the new Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop at Palms Crossing, next to Barnes & Noble at McAllen Convention Center. And he wants visual artists to get ready to exhibit there in the near future! What a cool way to spend a summer evening!

On Thursday evening a new “Open Mike” series begins at Art Expressions in the Arts District on Main Street in McAllen. “Poetry Nights” will be the Tuesday series.

If you are in the market for orchids, an orchid hybridizer will be speaking at Quinta Mazatlan this Saturday and will have orchids for sale.

On Tuesday night Brownsville artist Jonathan Searfoss and McAllen artist David Freeman will bring some 5^th grade photography students’ work to the attention of attendees at the opening of “Life in a Bordertown Exhibit” at McAllen Chamber of Commerce. Searfoss and Freeman received partial funding for the project from McAllen Arts Council grant last year.

The Noche de Peña at Galeria 409 in Brownsville on Tuesday night promises to be quite a show with “La Mission” and other musicians performing live.

Dance Conservatory of McAllen’s “Aladdin Jr Workshop” starts on Wednesday.
