“Americans have got to understand that we are paying present-day retirees with the taxes paid by young workers in America today. And that’s a disgrace …”
This is quoting John McCain on Social Security, which the plutocrats have been trying since its inception to drown in the nearest available bathtub (cf. the Norquist Doctrine).
Of course, had the politicos, McCain included, kept their fingers out of the trust fund re-created in 1986, there is a high likelihood that Social Security would be solvent today.
Instead, we have had to bail out “exhuberant” investors over and over. In the 80’s, among many other public thefts, there were the savings and loan scandals in which both John McCain and presidential brother Neil Bush figured prominently. Had we not had to tap the Social Security fund then and again this year to bail out Bear-Stearnes and now Fanny May and Freddie May, perhaps our funds solvency problems would be fewer.
But, no. Let’s assume you are a thief and you are in Congress. But, oh, I repeat myself, or so said Mark Twain. Well, lets assume you want to be a shill for theives and you are running for president. Huh. I can’t seem to avoid repeating myself.
