A poem by Thomas Thornburg from Munseetown
O, when I was a child dancing
Summertimes when life was sweet,
I heard the gospel chapels sing
Their hymns of praise to Christ the King,
But life is stepped in chance, in chance,
On Rosemary Street:
And the king came,
And the king reign,
And the king be King Cocaine.
O, when I was an older child
In summer on Rosemary Street,
I walked upon the random wild
And met an evil man to meet:
And the king came
And the king reign,
And the king be King Cocaine.
O, sisters if I see you there
Where children flee the rousting bulls,
Where at my station I declare
(My face a painted skull),
Remember me if we should meet
On Rosemary Street.
