From Gene’s Notebook

…baseball, not popular in Deep South Texas, and Brownsville does NOT need a baseball stadium, with questionable funding, in a always folding league with always folding cities ….

…and I was surprised the other day when a man carrying groceries told me in Spanish that the Red Sox would come back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Rays; he scared me, and he was almost correct …little odd to have a baseball talk in mid-morning in West Brownsville ….

…recall when the World Series was in the daytime, when the US stopped for the World Series, now, just another event on the sports calendar …but for me, still special ….

I THINK THAT BASEBALL IS QUITE POPULAR IN SOUTH TEXAS…BUT NOT POPULAR ENOUGH TO BUILD A BASEBALL STADIUM…JUST LOOK AT HARLINGEN (WHITE WINGS)…MONEY AND WORK AND OTHER RESOURCES SHOULD GO TO BUILDING A MULTI-PURPOSE STADIUM FOR ALL THE BROWNSVILLE HIGH SCHOOLS IN A MORE FAVORABLE LOCATION…SAM’S STADIUM HAS OUTLIVED ITS’ PRESENT LOCATION…LOOK AT COMALANDER STADIUM IN SAN ANTONIO WHERE SOCCER REGIONALS AS WELL AS LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAMES ARE HELD…SOMETHING ALONG THAT LINE WOULD BE IDEAL FOR THE COMMUNITY…
