Election tidbits, and look for the connections!

From Gene’s Notebook

- Hispanic man tells me that whites up in the Rockies would call him a wetback. He’d say to them, “You’re wetter than I am! I crossed a river; you crossed an ocean.”

- Friend tells me that he votes on the following: “If I’d like coffee with the candidate he or she gets my vote!” Hell, I’ve voted for people based on sheriff-looking panzas and belt buckles and guns and strutting!

- Have been making election calls, and many numbers have been disconnected, often with ages of 80 or 90, and they might well be dead or in nursing homes, and like boards that weather, age, age …and I’m close to being on the call list, and the caller does not get an answer ….

- And thousands around here are not registered, and they are citizens, and there are thousands who are legal workers – but not citizens …and there should be a way to fast-track them into citizenship – though that would not guarantee they’d vote, look at the citizens who don’t …and is it apathy, or educated thinking that there are no real choices …?

- Anyway, November fourth nears, and I’ve always felt that Election Day should be a national holiday, even a two-three-day one, and that there should be same-day registration ….
