Bitter Wind

Lyrics by Edgar Clinton, Jr.

It’s a bitter wind that’s blowing and it’s time to be going
It does no good to ask where

There’s many a tear
And many a wisp of laughter to haunt the years
And many a joy left behind

For while we were sleeping something
Came to steal our dream away and now
It’s time to go, where, can’t say, don’t know
If you’d like to
Read for yourself the signs

Cop and robber one and the same
One works like the devil, The real Devil rakes it in
The chain of command binds every hand
And every hand searches for a pocket.

Gang bangers in suits with flag pin lapels
Spewing God and country and honor
Meaning torture, death and hell
The poet and the dreamer
Fallen to the back door schemer
For sure he’s not getting the record contract
Be lucky to get his life back.

Bodies are bound by the chains of the master
More hopelessly the master is chained to the corpse of his rotting mind
And to the lies that he calls lifestyle
And all the rest of the crap that makes up the “good life”

It’s a bitter wind that’s blowing and it’s time to be going
I just hope there is a somewhere

There’s many a tear
And many a whisper of laughter to haunt the years
And many a joy left behind

Who wrote this program? Lies, and more lies smothered in spin sauce
But the dream of a man is that his children thrive,
Live strong, breathe free, Each one claim proud a reason
I should have enjoyed it more but for the creeping treason
That betrays all the lovely words,

It’s a bitter wind that’s blowing and it’s time to be going

My only hope is that there is a somewhere

There’s many a tear
And much laughter to haunt the years
And many a joy left behind.

Edgar, this is an excellent piece. Come over and record it. I give it the highest compliment I can: I’m jealous. As soon as I read it, I wanted to hear it, hear you sing it. I’ve been in that place and recently. Thanks.

Edgar, Sing it! What a way with crisp words you have …and a fine voice, too, the kind of voice that gets EVERYONE’S attention at the NMCACWF the first Tueday of each month in history filled San Benito ….
