I’ve added a link to Ben Christensen’s blog, Digging for Fire. Christensen is the Marine who wrote regular posts for the Brownsville Herald during his Iraq tour. They were quite well written, in my recollection, and delivered some measurable part of the experience he was living. Now he’s working through the notes he kept during his tour. Here are his words on the project from the introductory essay:

This is a project that snapped into my mind on the flight home from a writers conference in Grand Rapids Michigan. As of July 4th, 2009, I will be writing a serialized account of my combat experiences, daily. I’ve begun the thing to give myself a lead of about a week’s worth of material, and what I have so far consists of a short and snappy 300-500 words per installment.

He began his project in June so there’s some catching up to do unless you were wise enough to pick it up in July. I’m sorry I didn’t spot it sooner. We wish Mr. Christensen well with his project. He’s been through some things most of us haven’t and has something to say about it.

Thanks for the heads up, Stan. I really liked reading Ben’s stuff in the Herald and I had the pleasure of meeting him and some of his family once out at South Padre Boatyard. He’s good people and I will definitely check out the blog.
