Amazing. Last week, I located former Redimix member (the Muncie band I played in) Richard/Lozelle Jennings, ordered an album he’s recently released, wrote to him, and he wrote back letting me know I had it right. Today I get an email from Kenny Walker, also from Redimix, who’d earned a doctorate in English and then gone off to Florida to the Daytona Beach Community College to run their theater program–pretty rambling effort from Ken, the upshot of which is that he’d like to renew friendships.
Cool by me. Muncie in the 70’s were some pretty crazy days, and I was a pretty barbaric member of the tribe at the time. I’d left the place only when I was drafted, but after that, was full time prairie boy. Kenny was my acting mentor and introduced me to the form at the Carmichael Repertory Company, a shoestring effort subsidized by the English department to, I think, the tune of about $200 and probably a stipend for Ken and, maybe, Bobby what’s-his-name. You know, the bearded ego trip from Greenfield, Ohio, home of the world famous Triangle, a bar in a reconstructed cattle barn, now defunct for several decades.
So I responded with an even longer and more rambling reminiscence and report on history both ancient and modern, my so-called career in public school teaching, recent near-resurrection as a guitarist and dramatist, who’s where and doing what or done whom and so on. You know the gig. I’m writing purely on the afterglow of it right now, about a three hour, twelve paragraph writing session.
Well, my horoscopes have been indicating a major change for the last several months, since about the time I stopped smoking and started writing here. Connected phenomena? Hey, life is a myster, you know.
